BAKERSFIELD, KERN COUNTY — October 22, 2026. Residents who use the Kern River Multi-use Path for walking, cycling or commuting should check for temporary barriers along the Truxtun Lakes section. The City of Bakersfield’s official news page lists intermittent closures from October 19 through October 31, 2026.

A path interruption, not a highway shutdown

The notice concerns the Kern River Multi-use Path along Truxtun Lakes. It does not say every part of the popular path is closed for all 13 days, nor does it establish a closure of Truxtun Avenue, Highway 99 or another major roadway. The word intermittent matters: an individual stretch may reopen while work continues elsewhere.

The City’s online summary does not provide a universal hour-by-hour schedule for every obstruction. Riders with a fixed commute, families heading to the trails and people using mobility devices should therefore check signs at access points and follow lawful temporary detours. Do not ride around barriers into an active worksite.

Why local path notices matter

Trails can be transport links as well as recreation areas. A sudden closure may change how someone reaches a workplace, park or neighborhood, and bicycle detours should never be assumed to be safe without reviewing actual street conditions. A public works calendar is advance information rather than verification of a barrier at a specific minute.
