BAKERSFIELD, Kern County — Residents following city spending, traffic projects, public safety or proposed ordinances can find information on Bakersfield’s City Council website and review agenda packets before scheduled meetings.
According to the city’s official council information, the seven-member City Council generally meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, with exceptions reflected in the adopted meeting calendar. Meetings take place at City Hall South, 1501 Truxtun Avenue, with session times normally listed at 3:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. Residents should confirm the actual session schedule in the specific meeting notice.
What to read before attending
The city’s council page links to agendas and meeting minutes. An agenda describes business to be considered; it does not mean a proposed action has already been approved. Minutes become official after the applicable approval process. Staff reports and attachments can explain the alternatives, funding sources and effects on neighborhoods.
For a roadwork project or neighborhood concern, look for the exact location and applicable council ward. Bakersfield’s council districts are represented by members serving four-year terms. The city provides contact information for each council office.
How to participate
Check the meeting agenda for instructions on speaking, submitting material or participating in public hearings. Public comment procedures may differ depending on the type of agenda item. Residents should not rely on a historic meeting notice to determine the deadline for a future hearing.
California58 will use council records to identify which local proposals actually advance, rather than labeling discussion items as completed projects.
